Well, we are now approaching our final week...hard to believe. "Final" has new meaning for me, as I approach retirement. My feelings about retirement can be summed up like the children's book, Fortunately, Unfortunately. Fortunately, I'll be able to wake up without an alarm; unfortunately, when I wake up, I won't have anywhere to go. Fortunately, I'll be able to travel; unfortunately, I won't have any money to go very far. Fortunately, my husband is also retired; unfortunately, my husband is also retired! Fortunately, I have time to exercise; unfortunately, I have no excuses NOT to exercise. Fortunately, I'll have time to cook nice meals; unfortunately, I'll eat every bite and get fat. Fortunately, I'll have time to go out to lunch with friends; unfortunately, my friends will be working. As you can see, it's with mixed feelings that I retire. I know that at least for the first year, I'll enjoy the freedom to read late into the night, wake up a little later, start a yoga class, go to Paper Garden, travel, work in my garden and cook more, but I'm sure after I've had my time off, I will really be drawn back to education. I feel like it's what I was meant to do. So, for now, I'll take my year off, and after that, I'll reassess my needs and go from there. Who knows? I may come back to Didion and be involved in some capacity. I hope so. Having been to numerous schools in various communities, I can see that Didion is a special place for children to learn and flourish. It provides a safe, nurturing environment for children to learn and grow. I will truly miss it.
**Monday is the day of ice cream making with our 4th grade buddies. If parents are helping to prep this activity, please meet Mrs. Searle in the teacher's lounge at 11:30. The activity will begin at 12:30. Parent helpers--if you have an ice chest you can loan us, that would be a great help. Thanks! It should be a fun day.
**The pool party at the Delucchi's is on Monday as well. I'm planning to be there as soon as I can get away from here, but will be returning to school to continue with the long, laborious packing process. It should be a great time. Thanks, Delucchi Family, for opening up your home to the class and hosting this party. See you all there!
**I will work on the carpool for the Sac Marina field trip this weekend. I have a long list of drivers--I counted 18 the last time I checked. It'll be a challenge making this carpools, but since it's not far, I don't think it'll be a problem shifting some people if we have to. I'm sure we can double up some of the parents/children together to reduce the number of cars. We'll be there until about 2:00. Please don't forget your car seats!!! I hope everyone is working on their junk boats for the race. I can't wait to see the boats!
**The last day of school is on Wednesday, June 13th. It is a regular day, rather than a minimum day. We will probably see a movie and have a low key day.
This concludes the last newsletter for the year. It does sadden me to think that it's the last newsletter I'll ever write as a first grade teacher, but I guess all good things come to an end. Have a great weekend.
