We now have all the volunteers we need for our groups and workshop time. Thanks so much!
Classroom Helpers
- Class Helpers--I will have sign ups for class helpers at Back to School. Daily classroom helpers are from 8:30-9:30 daily (workbooks with small groups of students at a time) and 12:50-1:30 (Tues-Fri) for art during Workshop. If you can't come in every week, you may want to alternate with another parent. I rely on these daily helpers, so if you are unable to come, please make arrangements to have someone come in your place, or let me know ahead of time and I won't plan groups that day.
- Art Links--If someone is interested in teaching Art Links, please contact me. I have my own curriculum that I use, but would be open to new projects and ideas. I can collaborate with you. If you are not comfortable teaching Art Links, I need 3-4 helpers during the lesson to help with prep and to circulate and help students with the project. I have a lot of art resource books, picture books and examples of artwork. My area of emphasis is pre- and post-Impressionist artists, but also have done Kandinsky, Picasso, Pollack, Georgia O'Keeffe, and Miro.
- Copy Person--Very invaluable. If you are familiar with the copier (both Riso and the copy machine) and would like to volunteer, this is the job for you! I have a tray by the window that has a folder where I put all papers that need copying. At the same location, I also put any work that needs completing, i.e. collating, stapling, tracing, etc. in the Things to Do tray. If you come in and have a few minutes, this is where you can find work that needs to be done.
- Friday Folder--As I correct papers, I put them in a file folder on top of the file box where the corrected papers are filed to go into the Friday Folder. This job would be to file all the corrected papers, newsletters, homework packets, etc. into the files and put them in the Friday Folder on Friday to go home. The Friday Folders get placed into individual cubbies on Friday.
- Scholastic Book Orders--The volunteer would input all book orders from online orders and written form orders and submitted online. When the books come, the volunteer would separate the orders and put them in the students' cubbies.
- PTA Class Liaison--Our class needs a representative to attend the PTA meetings once a month and to report back to the teacher/parents concerning the items discussed at the meeting. This is a very important job because it provides a direct link between the PTA and the classroom.
- Party Helper -A new school policy concerning parties is now in place. All classes are limited to two parties a year. The first grade team has decided on the Winter Party and the End of the Year. This will mean that this job will be much simpler this year.
- Childrens' Day (May)--Each year, we celebrate Childrens' Day (Japanese holiday) in early May. It's a great day of learning about the culture through art, food, dance, stories, clothes, speakers and Japanese cultural displays. The volunteer would organize and plan the activities with me.
- Work at Home--For those parents who would like to help but aren't able to come to class, you can volunteer to work at home. I always have collating, stapling, cutting, punching, preparing, etc. to do. I will send the work home in a large manila envelope with your child.
- Emergency Phone Tree--I need a volunteer who can type up an emergency phone tree for our class.
